The Recreation Ground

As you step out from the Swan’s Nest turn left and remember to chant ‘location, location, location’ and by that time you’ll practically be in the Recreation Ground, or the “Rec” as the locals call it. This extensive park area sits across the river from the RSC and is a regular venue for food fairs and events, and perfect for admiring the Swans.

There is a paddling pool, mini golf course, a toddlers play area including a zip wire, bandstand and even tennis courts. The views of the River Avon, the town and the Swan Theatre are superb, but for an even better view you can even try the Stratford Big Wheel which operates during the summer.

Avon Bank Gardens

Avon Bank gardens contain features of 18th century origin (notably the Grade II Listed orangery), but principally consist of the remains of mid 19th century villa gardens associated with a house rebuilt in 1866. Features include terraces, walks, mixed planting; and an impressive American oak tree. Now a public park that you can reach by walking over the footbridge past the RSC, or trying the Chain Ferry over from the Recreation Ground.
